What You'll Do...

As the Transportation Team Leader, you will oversee, assist, and cultivate a team of CDL drivers, guiding them towards excellence in execution and customer satisfaction while ensuring that each day is safe and productive. You will be the primary contact for resolving customer and driver concerns, maintaining a consistent and equitable approach. You will be the backbone of our logistics team, adeptly solving issues and ensuring every delivery is a success.

Location: This is an on-site position.

Shift: Primarily work hours per day, Monday - Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A commitment to leading by example to promote a culture of safety for all team members.
  • 1 - 2 years of field experience in concrete, aggregates, or heavy civil construction.
  • Demonstrated leadership and influence skills, with the ability to mentor and guide a diverse team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Strong customer service and critical thinking abilities, enabling you to assess complex situations and develop effective solutions professionally.
  • Proficiency in PC applications and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Flexibility to meet team and customer needs, with a readiness to adjust work hours when necessary.
  • A valid driver's license and current authorization to work in the United States, along with the ability to pass pre-employment controlled-substance testing.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Provide supervision and direction to a team of drivers, including annual performance appraisals, hiring, discipline, training, and scheduling mentor meetings.
  • Daily coordination with Dispatch Supervisor in implementation of Teamster contract including out of town assignments, driver conduct performance, and attendance.
  • Observe drivers in the field ensuring timely and efficient deliveries, excellent customer relations, and safe operation of our equipment.
  • Follow-up on delivery complaints, driver complaints and be observant of quality control problems.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and assist with audits as required.
  • Oversee Smith System Driver Training for all drivers.
  • Communicate regularly with Transportation Manager regarding driver efficiency in order to improve productivity.
  • Interpret and work effectively within the guidelines of the company charter and union contracts.
  • Manage applicable union contracts, assign trucks and keep schedule of driver qualifications. Assist with contract negotiations as required.
  • Represent drivers' interests in problems with shop, dispatch, management or office.
  • Handle all property damage complaints associated with drivers; ensure proper reporting of incidents and follow up. Work with dispatch personnel researching truck and driver related information.
  • Investigate and coordinate with Safety Director regarding all driver related property damage and industrial injury accidents. Complete required reports and take appropriate disciplinary action.
  • Coordinate and resolve delivery access problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.
