Job Title: Rehabilitation Therapist - Specialist

The Rehabilitation Therapist-Specialist plays a crucial role in the establishment of the Rehabilitation Therapy Specialty service line. This includes developing clinical protocols, coordinating workflows and patient flow with referring providers, planning and implementing treatment programs, and monitoring patient progress towards their rehabilitation goals. Additionally, this role involves direct communication with referring physicians and accountability for the performance and enhancement of the service line.

Job Relationships

  • Reports to the Director of Rehabilitation Therapy

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate assistance to physicians and patients in a clinical setting specific to the area of expertise.
  • Coordinate patient care outside the clinical setting, focusing on their rehabilitation needs.
  • Conduct evaluation procedures such as range of motion assessments, circumferential measurements, neurological evaluations, and functional activity analysis.
  • Analyze evaluation results to assess the degree of impairment, aid in differential diagnoses, and assist in establishing and adjusting treatment specifics.
  • Develop treatment plans based on patient complaints, physician referrals, medical record reviews, and evaluation outcomes.
  • Set appropriate treatment goals aimed at alleviating pain, restoring function, and preventing disability.
  • Identify contraindications to treatment and recommend necessary modifications.
  • Administer various therapeutic modalities including electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, and massage techniques in accordance with established procedures and patient tolerance.
  • Guide patients in therapeutic exercises to enhance posture, strength, range of motion, coordination, and endurance.
  • Provide fitting and application of recommended orthotic devices.
  • Educate patients on the use of assistive devices and home-based physical therapy procedures.
  • Monitor treatment effects and adjust techniques to maximize benefits.
  • Document initial evaluations and progress reports in the patient's medical record.
  • Communicate progress or changes in the patient's condition to the referring physician as necessary.
  • Ensure accurate completion of charge tickets for treatment provided.
  • Assist in timely scheduling for patients.
  • Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants and other support staff.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Keep a clean and organized work environment.
  • Strive to ensure patient comfort and modesty.
  • Communicate effectively and tactfully in person or via telephone.
  • Utilize supplies efficiently.
  • Maintain equipment and report any issues to the Director.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Complete incident reports for any events that may expose the individual or facility to liability.
  • Notify the Director of any situations requiring consideration beyond the Rehabilitation Therapist's duties.
  • Comply with incident reporting policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all training and accomplishments as required by policy.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and uphold the Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Therapy.

Licenses/Certificates

  • Licensed by the State of Illinois (PT).
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Membership in the American Physical Therapy Association is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with Kinesiotaping, LSVT BIG certification for Parkinson's treatment, Graston Technique, Sports Medicine, McKenzie Method for back pain, Lymphedema Management, Women's/Men's Health, Vestibular Rehabilitation, Dry Needling, ASTYM, ISTYM, CSCS, and BFR (Blood Flow Restriction) is advantageous.

Working Environment

  • Involves extensive walking, standing, kneeling, and heavy lifting.
