Position Overview:
The Public Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of individuals and property within the organization.
This role encompasses a comprehensive range of law enforcement responsibilities.
Key duties include conducting patrols via vehicle, on foot, or by bicycle to deter, identify, and investigate disturbances and criminal activities; managing traffic incidents; assisting individuals in need; and enforcing traffic regulations. Officers are also tasked with apprehending suspects, providing testimony in legal proceedings, and executing related duties as assigned.
Officers must demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and composure while performing their responsibilities, with more complex issues typically addressed under the guidance of a supervising officer.
The position involves frequent interaction with the public, necessitating tact, firmness, and decisiveness.Work is conducted in accordance with established policies and applicable laws, supplemented by specific instructions from higher authorities.
Officers are exposed to the inherent risks associated with law enforcement duties and must adhere to health and safety standards.Regular supervision is provided, and performance is assessed through observation, report reviews, and discussions regarding the handling of various incidents.
Key Responsibilities:- Conducts patrols of facilities and grounds using various methods; checks for security breaches; inspects unoccupied buildings; identifies unusual conditions; may monitor for stolen vehicles, missing persons, or suspects; reports hazardous conditions.
- Controls access to emergency departments and hospital areas, ensuring the safety of patients and visitors by operating screening systems to prevent unauthorized items from entering treatment areas.
- Maintains knowledge of emergency protocols and assists with the management of mental health patients, including transportation and escorting duties within the healthcare system.
- Responds to a variety of calls for assistance, assessing situations to determine appropriate actions.
- Investigates traffic incidents and violations; issues citations; directs traffic during peak times or emergencies.
- Conducts investigations of accidents and potential criminal activities, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses; executes tasks assigned by senior officers; apprehends and processes suspects.
- Provides guidance to the public regarding laws and regulations; testifies in court; executes legal documents as necessary.
- Manages traffic flow during busy periods or when signals fail; maintains order at public events.
- Conducts bank escorts as required.
- Utilizes communication equipment to receive instructions and relay information to headquarters; operates mobile data systems effectively.
- Prepares comprehensive reports detailing activities and incidents.
- Performs additional duties as required throughout the organization.
Qualifications include a high school diploma and completion of basic law enforcement training; relevant experience is preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Skills and Requirements:
Possession of a valid driver's license. Certification as a law enforcement officer is preferred, with intermediate or advanced certification being advantageous.
Proficiency in computer systems and office software; strong organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including customer service and writing abilities.
