Job Summary

UL is seeking a highly skilled Field Evaluations Engineer to join our team. As a Field Evaluations Engineer, you will be responsible for independently managing the execution and timely completion of engineering projects, developing UL requirements, test methods, and test equipment for complex, new, or unusual products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine project scope, develop a preliminary plan of investigation, and determine project specifications by analyzing client input, available data, and product construction.
  • Conduct on-site product evaluations, including frequent travel to client sites.
  • Communicate with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, and negotiate completion dates and sample requirements.
  • Respond to client concerns and resolve complex client issues.
  • Provide technical assistance to clients in reference to product evaluations and plans review.
  • Represent UL at meetings of outside organizations and provide presentations on code and certification-related technical topics.
  • Determine areas in which the product may not be in compliance with Standard-based requirements.
  • Plan, conduct, and supervise code and regulatory-related projects of major magnitude and scope.
  • Serve as Project Handler of record and sign as Reviewer of record as assigned.
  • Resolve complex engineering issues by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the field-based product evaluations.
  • Develop test requirements for products beyond the scope of existing standards or those involving unique features requiring frequent use of independent judgment.
  • Develop special test methods and test equipment.
Requirements
  • University degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics.
  • Four years of directly related work experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline.
  • Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in the area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts in use in the area of expertise.
  • Expert knowledge of NEC, Building Codes, Regulatory, and conformity standards in use in areas of expertise.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Hazardous Locations, SEMI, Renewable Energy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong client-interfacing skills.
  • Ability to work remotely with frequent travel.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • A commitment to be a lifelong learner.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Hazard-Based Engineering concepts.
  • Working knowledge of industry issues, needs, and problems.
  • Experienced with the utilization of Electrical Test Equipment.
