Welcome to The MusicianShip, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free music education and enrichment programs to historically marginalized communities. We are seeking a highly motivated and mission-driven Music Educator to join our team and help us inspire, educate, and empower youth in Washington, DC.

About the Role

The Music Educator will be responsible for delivering music education and socio-emotional learning (SEL) lessons to youth in afterschool programs. This role involves preparing youth for performance opportunities, building community with youth and their families, and communicating program successes and challenges with site coordinators. The Music Educator will also assess student skills and complete music aptitude assessments, maintain confidential data, and attend field trips, performances, or after-school assemblies.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver music education and SEL lessons to youth in afterschool programs
  • Prepare youth for performance opportunities
  • Build community with youth and their families
  • Communicate program successes and challenges with site coordinators
  • Assess student skills and complete music aptitude assessments
  • Maintain confidential data as required by FERPA
  • Attend field trips, performances, or after-school assemblies
  • Attend required meetings with site coordinators, school administrators, and TMS leadership
  • Communicate program needs to site coordinators and department leadership
Requirements
  • Some college or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of music instruction experience; experience teaching youth in group settings a plus
  • Basic classroom and behavior management skills
  • A passion for empowering youth
  • Must pass a background check conducted by The Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST)
  • Vaccinated against COVID-19 or has a related exemption
  • Proficiency in G-Suite and Microsoft Office
Compensation and Benefits

The Compensation Range for this position is $30 - $40 per hour and includes payment for off-site administrative work like lesson planning, professional development, and training.
