Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the State of Florida's Department of Health as an Environmental Health Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting inspections and investigations of community environmental health programs, water programs, and onsite sewage treatment and disposal systems. You will work closely with our supervisors and other team members to ensure the health and safety of our communities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections and investigations of community environmental health programs, including food hygiene, group care, mobile home parks, and tanning salons.
  • Assist in making ready and conducting programmatic evaluations handed down from the State Program Office.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and training activities to stay up-to-date on the latest environmental health practices and regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and investigations of water programs, including community swimming pools and limited use wells.
  • Participate in special projects related to environmental health programs.
  • Attend training programs, seminars, conferences, briefings, and meetings to earn contact hours and maintain certification requirements for environmental health professionals.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze, and interpret scientific or technical data.
  • Certification in accordance with Section 381.0101, Florida Statutes.
