About the Role

The Laboratory Senior Analyst is responsible for performing analysis in various matrices in the organic department using GC/GC-MS instrumentation. This position will also perform routine functions such as sample preparation and lab maintenance.

Key responsibilities include adhering to company policies, procedures, and directions regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments; following safety requirements as described in the company Safety Manual and communicating all safety concerns and incidents to the Safety Representative; preparing and standardizing reagents and solutions as required; preparing calibration and quality control standards, duplicate and spike samples; cleaning all glassware and other containers required for sample preparation and analysis; analyzing samples on the GC/MS instrumentation; evaluating data and troubleshooting problems with instruments, support equipment, and sample preparation processes; performing instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair as required; organizing workload to meet Turn Around Times (TATs) and hold times; creating work lists, workgroups, sample tables and other computer tasks as assigned; maintaining a clean and safe work environment; ordering relevant chemicals and supplies in a timely manner for your work area; participating in audits, method development and special projects as required; following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements without deviation, except where approved by Supervisor or Manager; adhering to strict QA/QC requirements; using correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; observing established safety regulations and complying with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; training and supervising junior staff in accordance with laboratory protocols; ensuring all training records and training binders are current and applicable; assisting in other areas of the lab as required and with other duties as assigned.

About You

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Senior Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will have excellent English communication skills, ability to use Microsoft Office at an intermediate level, intermediate computer skills, accurate and efficient data entry skills, capability to perform repetitive tasks correctly in a fast-paced environment, good organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines such as Turnaround Times (TAT) and holding requirements, analytical and process-oriented skills with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations, ability to work independently and as part of a team, a strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required, a commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.

Required qualifications include completion of B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry or a related discipline, 5 years' experience in an analytical laboratory or related field experience, and previous experience with GC/MS instrument or other laboratory instrumentation.

Physical demands include ability to lift up to 30 lbs./14 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances, ability to sit or stand for a full shift, manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks, ability to climb stairs, and exposure to unpleasant fumes.
