Lead Cook

Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace is a leading Italian grocery store chain with 11 locations across New York and New Jersey. We offer a unique selection of specialty goods, fresh produce, and gourmet treats that provide a special experience for our customers.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Cook to join our team at our Ramsey, NJ store. As the head of our Seafood Department Kitchen, you will be responsible for the cooking operations, including following instructions and recipes, organizing workstations, and guiding other cooks. You will also ensure that the refrigerators and storerooms are kept clean and neat, and that all food is stored at the correct temperature.

• Prepare and assemble ingredients for our seafood menu
• Follow company recipes to prepare high-quality hot and cold dishes
• Ensure that all food is stored at the correct temperature to avoid spoilage
• Properly measure all food portions and presentation to ensure consistency
• Oversee supply and kitchen items and work with the Seafood Manager to re-order stock as needed
• Clean and maintain cooking utensils, surfaces, and cooking area
• Assist other cooks to ensure timely completion of food orders
• Resolve problems with customer orders efficiently
• Follow all safety standards and company policy for safe food handling and storage

• High school diploma or GED
• 2+ years of experience as a prep or line cook
• Experience leading a kitchen team and cooking in a fast-paced retail environment
• Ability to speak, read, and communicate in English; bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
• ServSafe food handling certification is preferred

The majority of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. You may need to frequently position yourself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping. You may be required to lift objects up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and move heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
