Position Overview

Computational Physics, Inc. (CPI) is on the lookout for a skilled Linux System Administrator to enhance our support for clients in the deployment and upkeep of precise timing and astrometry networks.

The United States Naval Observatory (USNO) plays a pivotal role in generating and distributing accurate parameters related to time, celestial positions, and the earth's rotation. These parameters are essential for various applications, including GPS navigation, serving both national and international interests. Ensuring a dependable, secure, and manageable network at USNO is vital for the production and dissemination of these critical data products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct technical assistance to departments focused on Precise Time, Celestial Reference Frame, Earth Orientation, and DevSecOps at USNO.
  • Collaborate with USNO Information Assurance personnel to uphold compliance with Department of Defense cybersecurity standards.
  • Develop and maintain relevant documentation.

Location: This position is based at the U.S. Naval Observatory, with potential for partial telework in accordance with applicable guidelines.

Compensation: Salary will be aligned with experience and qualifications, complemented by an attractive benefits package.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of experience as a Linux system administrator.
  • Proficiency in managing, configuring, and patching Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
  • Experience with STIG and addressing vulnerabilities reported in ACAS and other security frameworks.
  • Familiarity with virtualized server environments (vSphere).
  • Experience in integrating servers with alerting systems (Solarwinds, AIDE, etc.).
  • Knowledge of configuring and managing Linux Active Directory Services (Centrify, IDM/FreeIPA, etc.).
  • Experience in installing and configuring antivirus solutions in Linux environments (McAfee/Trellix, MDE).
  • Experience with syslogging server integration (Solarwinds, Rsyslog, etc.).
  • Proficient in administering Linux environments using configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, etc.).
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity policies is highly desirable.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or an equivalent DoD 8570 certification is required.
