Nuclear Medicine Imaging Specialist

Job Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist produces high-quality nuclear medicine images and performs related procedures under the clinical direction of a Radiologist. This role requires strong patient care and safety skills, as well as the ability to provide education to staff and students.
Responsibilities:
- Identify patients, confirm date of birth, hospital number, and identification
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals and record route of administration, dose, and technologist's initials
- Describe exams to patients, obtain informed consent, and complete necessary paperwork
- Evaluate requisitions, charts, and lab results, and perform patient assessments
- Confirm females of childbearing age are not pregnant and arrange for pregnancy testing upon orders from the Nuclear Medicine physician
- Perform advanced duties such as PET imaging and lead technologist roles
- Handle radiopharmaceuticals, including receipt, documentation, and disposal, following guidelines set by the Radiation Safety Office and NRC
- Select, dose, and quality control review radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring each dose is correct for the ordered procedure
- Set up acquisition and perform according to protocol, maintaining patient comfort, care, and safety
- Analyze images and evaluate for correctness, processing films and submitting to physicians for approval
- Use RIS, CIS, SMS, and PACS to generate proper documentation and complete RIS orders with accurate charges
Requirements:
- Associate's Degree from an accredited school or program of nuclear medicine
- Current registration with the American Registry of Nuclear Medicine Technologists or certification by the Nuclear Medicine Certification Board
- One year in an acute care setting preferred
Statement:
New graduates who are registry-eligible may be considered, and if hired, must pass the registry within 6 months of hire.
