Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Motor Equipment Operator to join our team at the City of Somerville. As a Heavy Motor Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating heavy motor equipment in a safe and efficient manner to perform various tasks such as plowing and sanding sidewalks, loading and unloading trucks, and performing minor maintenance on equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy motor equipment such as plows, sanders, and trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Load and unload trucks with materials and equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance on equipment such as greasing, oiling, and cleaning.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance tasks such as digging holes, shoveling materials, and leveling areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Requirements
  • Ability to receive and interpret written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to use tools of trade in a workmanlike manner.
  • Ability to work in close quarters and withstand outside environmental conditions.
  • Valid Massachusetts Class B driver's license with a valid commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • Safe driving record.
Work Environment

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to outside weather conditions. The worker must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and stand/walk for most of the day.
