Position Overview:

The Production Planning Specialist plays a crucial role in developing and overseeing comprehensive production and delivery schedules. This position is responsible for consolidating the master schedule based on various operational factors including business objectives, shipment timelines, inventory levels, and production capabilities. The individual will act as a key liaison among Engineering, Sales, Production, and Shipping departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Oracle ERP and Op Center systems to formulate short-term production schedules while considering long-term strategic goals.
  • Determine and assess scheduling priorities for various job orders.
  • Address Supply, Demand, and Capacity challenges while maximizing labor and equipment efficiency.
  • Implement effective scheduling to achieve optimal On-Time In-Full (OTIF) or On-Time Delivery (OTD) metrics.
  • Collaborate on capacity planning activities and synchronize output with designated production areas.
  • Integrate Sales Orders with the master schedule using Oracle ERP and Op Center; ensure the availability of necessary raw materials, semi-finished products, supplies, equipment, and workforce to meet delivery commitments.
  • Review existing processes and propose enhancements to boost the efficiency of project planning and scheduling.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and closure of all Work Orders and projects within scheduling systems.
  • Implement ERP methodologies to plan, schedule, control, measure, and assess the effectiveness of production operations.
  • Effectively communicate forecasts for finished goods and inventory projections to the Management team.
  • Monitor and report significant changes in sales forecasts, budgets, and business strategies, prioritizing customer needs in mitigation efforts.
  • Promptly address demand-related challenges.
  • Communicate production schedules to team members in a timely manner.
  • Manage load balancing and bottleneck scheduling, applying the theory of constraints (TOC) for improved scheduling accuracy.
  • Coordinate and execute Effectivity Dates for Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Generate and maintain production orders within Op Center in alignment with commercial and validation production plans.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels, establishing appropriate safety stock levels.
  • Ensure that ERP system data elements related to supply chain and planning are accurately configured.
  • Identify weekly manufacturing variances and report findings to the cost accounting team.
  • Analyze and explain discrepancies between standard and actual costs, focusing on manufacturing variances.
  • Maintain safe and efficient work areas in accordance with company policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Batch Record instructions. Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Identify and pursue continuous improvement opportunities relevant to the role and participate in their execution.
  • Align ERP production schedules with customer demands.
  • Report directly to the Supply Chain Manager.
  • Conduct regular maintenance of monthly forecasts.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or Operations Management.
  • A minimum of 6 years of prior planning experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Oracle (or other Tier 1 or 2 ERP systems).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Op Center (or other Tier 1 or 2 Manufacturing Operations Management systems).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in tracking production efficiencies and reporting metrics to senior management.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for optimizing the manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems and software applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Prior experience in information technology or systems administration.
  • Excellent communication skills.
