We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Principal to lead our environmental consulting practice in the Portland, Maine area.

Ramboll is a global architecture, engineering, and consultancy company that specializes in creating sustainable solutions for clients. As a Principal, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing a consulting practice, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and innovative solutions to clients.

Your primary focus will be on managing and mentoring a team of consultants, identifying new business opportunities, preparing proposals, and participating in client presentations. You will also contribute to thought leadership by staying abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the environmental consulting field.

This role offers great opportunity for local leadership and advancement, as we are looking for recognized leaders in the consulting marketplace for the Portland, Maine area. We seek applicants with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in consulting, with a focus on project management and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Client Engagement: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships, understanding their consulting needs, and providing exceptional client service.
  • Project Management: Lead consulting projects from initiation to completion, ensuring deliverables are met within budget and timeline constraints, supervising project teams, allocating resources effectively, and maintaining project documentation.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of consultants, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Business Development: Identify new business opportunities, prepare proposals, and participate in client presentations, expanding the client base, and maintaining a strong network of industry contacts to generate business leads.
  • Thought Leadership: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the environmental consulting field, contributing to industry forums, publishing articles, and delivering presentations to establish the organization as a thought leader.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree related to consulting focus, such as environmental science, engineering, geology, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in consulting, with a focus on project management and client engagement.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of regulations, assessment methodologies, and/or permitting processes.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven leadership abilities, with the capability to manage and inspire a team, excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Business Development: Track record of successful business development, including generating leads, preparing proposals, and winning new projects.
