Job Title: Security Officer

PeaceHealth is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Security Officer to join our team. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for providing safety and security services to our patients, visitors, caregivers, and clinicians in a highly diverse and complex environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide safety and security services, including patrolling grounds, parking lots, buildings, securing entryways and exits, and responding to potential conduct issues and policy violations.
  • Interact with local law enforcement to provide information, clarification of events, and coordinate emergency protocols.
  • Perform internal and external security patrols of assigned hospitals and/or clinics, dispatch, and access control as assigned.
  • Provide stand-by service or escort services for protection of caregivers or patients as needed.
  • Provide courtesy services, such as providing directions, locksmith functions, jump-starts, changing flat tires, reporting vehicles with lights on, and assisting families in times of crisis.
  • Provide non-violent physical crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to neutralize extreme situations and mitigate negative outcomes.
  • Coordinate information, clarification of events, and emergency protocols, which may require collaboration with external safety and law enforcement agencies.
  • Respond to all emergency situations and apply appropriate protocols for codes, disasters, ETO exposures, fires, floods, hazardous spills, and all code situations.
  • May assist flight crew and ground crew with Life Flight/Airlift NW transports and securing landing pads.
  • Ensure adherence to protocols, completing, filing, and maintaining correct documentation, filing reports, monitoring visitor permits, and assisting with maintaining building access control using the computerized badge/door system.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of military or civilian security or law enforcement experience required.
  • Healthcare facility security experience preferred.
  • BLS Certification upon hire.
  • Valid state Driver's License.
  • IAHSS (International Assoc for Healthcare Security & Safety) Basic certification required within 45 days of employment.
  • If assigned location requires the use of tasers, successfully pass Taser Training Program. After successful completion of Taser Training Program officers will be required to carry the taser while on duty.
  • Complete CPI/De-escalation training within 180 days of employment.
Other Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to formulate a plan of action, carry it out with control, and apply crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to perform data entry as necessary.
  • Good physical condition to walk, run, and lift as needed.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
  • Acceptable driving record in accordance with the PeaceHealth Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
Working Conditions:
  • Lifting: Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Child Care Attendant: Ability to move around area with occasional sitting. Lift/carrying: Occasional up to 25 lbs. Push/pull: Occasional up to 50 lbs. force.
  • Frequent bending/kneeling/squatting/stooping/reaching/grasping.
  • Occasional push/pull up to 50 lbs. force.
  • Occasional reaching/bending/stooping/squatting/crouching/kneeling/grasping.
  • Security: Ability to move around area with occasional sitting. Continuous moving around area. Lifting/carrying: Frequent up to 10 lbs. Occasional up to 50 lbs.
Environmental Conditions:
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
  • Child Care Attendant: Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
  • Exposure to outside temperatures (seasonal).
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Security: Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual:
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
