Job Title: Manager/Principal Engineer II - Electrical

Honda Racing Corporation USA, a leading motorsports racing organization, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Manager/Principal Engineer II - Electrical to join its Racing Program in Santa Clarita, California.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direction to electrical systems design, development, and support for HRC programs.
  • Concept, creation, communication, and maintenance of business plans, strategic direction, budgets, and resource plans for the department and its activities.
  • Oversee software and hardware, control systems, and electrification activities at HRC, as well as initiate, specify, monitor, and direct electronics-related R&D projects at HRC partners and suppliers.

Some travel may be required.


Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent management experience.
  • 15 years of professional Autosport racing experience in direct electrical engineering hardware and software development, including specification, design, testing, and validation of electronic engine control and management systems.
  • Previous project management leadership experience for state-of-the-art electronic hardware and software development projects.
  • Computer hardware/software configuration and integration experience.
  • 15 years of experience specializing in pinnacle-level automotive racing, including research, development, performance, durability, program management, costing, budgeting, and customer relations.
  • Make difficult technical decisions based on data, experience, intuition, and a broad view of the risk/reward.
  • Experience in race engine engineering in F1 and/or IndyCar or professional racing-sanctioned series.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of algorithm development tools and techniques, including rapid prototyping tools such as MATLAB/Simulink modeling, auto coding, and hardware-in-the-loop testing equipment.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of data acquisition software, telemetry, and electronic communications systems.
  • Extensive electrical engineering and technical skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrification systems in racing.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of control systems.
  • Understanding of internal combustion engine mechanics and controls, as well as associated drivetrain and chassis interactions.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of electronic hardware and software development, testing, data analysis, and signoff procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively present concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to effectively interface and work with all levels of management.
  • Skilled in the management of engineers providing trackside support for pinnacle-level motorsport.
  • Engine/vehicle development knowledge, including calibration and simulation.
  • Knowledge of control strategies, experience with McLaren ATLAS software a plus.
  • Skilled in developing business plans, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Excellent computing skills, competent with main Microsoft products.

Ability to effectively interface with various personality types; data mining and tool creation; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team environment and under minimal supervision.

Total Rewards:
  • Competitive base salary $161,300-252,000.
  • Pay will be based on several variables, including but not limited to geographic location, work experience, education, etc.
