Key Responsibilities
  • Perform carpentry repairs of limited difficulty to buildings and facilities.
  • Construct, install, repair, and replace items such as doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, frame structures, windows, trim, and cabinets.
  • Perform painting tasks of limited difficulty using brush and roller according to written work orders or verbal instructions.
  • Assist higher-level employees by mixing and stirring paints, moving drop cloths and scaffolds, and cleaning walls in preparation for painting.
  • Perform plumbing repairs of limited difficulty such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures.
  • Replace faucet washers, unplugging drains using a plunger, and replacing liquid petroleum gas bottles.
  • Perform electrical tasks of limited difficulty such as replacing light switches and household light fixtures, changing light bulbs, and assisting electrician as needed.
  • Utilize hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wire cutters.
  • Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails on land and waterways.
  • Clean and service chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities.
  • Collect trash and make minor repairs as needed.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Uniform allowance provided.
  • On-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work may be required.
  • New employees or supervisors in the Federal government must complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old or meet certain exceptions.
Qualifications
  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Use of measuring instruments.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials.
