This role will function as the Manager of Research Administration for the Director of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Stephen Nimer. The position is responsible for providing comprehensive laboratory, administrative, and scientific support, as well as overseeing scientific activities within Dr. Nimer's laboratory. Key responsibilities include managing essential laboratory operations and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
Offer managerial assistance for Dr. Nimer's scientific endeavors, which includes managing the calendar, scheduling and prioritizing appointments and meetings, and facilitating both verbal and written communications with internal and external stakeholders. This role also involves scientific writing, drafting letters of support, planning events including logistics, and performing various clerical and administrative tasks as required.

Oversee all stages of grant submission processes for Dr. Nimer and his laboratory team, ensuring adherence to compliance requirements, deadlines, and deliverables while efficiently managing awarded grants.


Act as the liaison with the University’s operational administrative units, including Human Resources, Information Technology, Space Management, and Facilities, as well as central administrative units such as the Departments of Medicine, Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, and the Office of Research Administration.


Evaluate incoming correspondence and projects, disseminate information as necessary, and ensure timely responses or actions while serving as the primary liaison between Dr. Nimer and laboratory personnel.

Identify challenges and opportunities, prepare status summaries, and provide recommendations regarding operational initiatives and solutions.

Initiate reports and prepare confidential correspondence on behalf of the supervisor, ensuring compliance with Federal and University policies and procedures, while keeping technical and research personnel informed of relevant fiscal and personnel policies.

Schedule, plan, and manage meetings to ensure objectives are met, assisting in the efficient operation of the laboratory and the daily management of financial and personnel activities.

Contribute to the preparation of research communications, publications, presentations, and grant submissions through scientific writing and editing.

Conduct interviews for prospective employees, provide recommendations, and coordinate personnel actions and paperwork for the laboratory.


Maintain positive professional relationships with all levels of administration and external organizations to facilitate business operations and resolve issues.

Assist in long-term planning initiatives aimed at achieving operational excellence.

Supervise and coordinate special projects and events as needed.

Provide coverage for the Director's office when required.

Maintain regular communication with the Senior Manager of Business Operations for updates related to initiatives stemming from the Director's laboratory, including preparation for scientific events and meeting grant deadlines.


Laboratory Oversight:
Manage laboratory activities and deadlines, including internal meetings, scientific presentations, collaborations, and grant submissions.

Provide editorial and scientific writing support for grants, publications, and presentations.


Oversee the collection and dissemination of administrative and scientific information, including the organization of laboratory resources and ensuring compliance with IACUC, IBC, and HSRO protocols.

Address concerns and requests from core facilities and evaluate technical procedures and equipment to maintain operational standards.


Meet with laboratory members to ensure compliance with regulations and to implement new policies, keeping staff informed of current changes and standards.


Oversee the management of scientific data, reporting progress, and maintaining the laboratory's website.


Assist in the recruitment of laboratory personnel, managing job descriptions, applicant identification, interview processes, and travel reimbursements.


Serve as an advisor to laboratory members regarding schedules and problem resolution, facilitating communication within the laboratory.


Scientific Activities Management:

Calendar Management:
Prioritize deadlines and roadblocks related to reviews, abstracts, scientific communications, and recruitment, optimizing the calendar and progress reports.

Oversee science-related correspondence and projects, ensuring timely responses and actions.

Manage special projects and activities on an ongoing basis.

Organize and archive all scientific activities and correspondence.


Collect and file necessary documentation, including CVs, biosketches, and administrative requirements.

Provide feedback and guidance as requested regarding activities and personnel matters.

Grants Management:
Conduct searches for laboratory funding opportunities and ensure proper dissemination of information related to grant submission processes.


Effectively manage the evaluation of timing and planning for efficient grant submissions, including the development of personalized guidelines.

Develop budgets and compile all necessary administrative supporting documents.

Review and provide feedback on the scientific content of applications, ensuring feasibility and alignment with funding guidelines.


Manage submissions, progress reports, and compliance requirements, including post-award management of expenses.

Responsible for developing a tracking system for awards and grant applications for laboratory members.

Manage journal clubs, seminars, funding opportunities, and laboratory equipment initiatives.

Facilitate the implementation of sustainability initiatives within the laboratory.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field, accompanied by three years of relevant work experience.

Exceptional communication skills are essential. The ideal candidate must be organized, analytical, and possess strong judgment and communication abilities to interact effectively with various institutional departments and team members.
