Job Summary

RPM ReSearch is seeking a seasoned Senior Clinical Veterinarian to lead our team of veterinary professionals in providing exceptional care to non-human primates. As a key member of our distinguished team, you will be responsible for overseeing the medical and surgical care of laboratory animals, ensuring humane veterinary support and compliance with policies and practices related to animal care and welfare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of junior veterinarians and veterinary staff, fostering their professional development and career growth.
  • Provide comprehensive medical and surgical care for laboratory animals, ensuring humane veterinary support.
  • Conduct and oversee physical, ophthalmic, and other necessary exams on laboratory animals.
  • Offer expertise in animal health, biology, physiology, and research methodology to staff scientists and technicians, providing training as needed.
  • Assist the Director in the oversight of the animal care and use program, ensuring compliance with policies and practices related to animal care and welfare.
  • Manage the activities of the assigned section to ensure effective performance and high standards of animal care.
  • Serve as acting department head in the Director's absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and operations.
  • Report and resolve all animal care concerns promptly.
  • Engage in the business operations of import, export, and quarantine of an animal supplier.
  • Participate in the breeding colony, overseeing primates at various life stages, including neonatal, juvenile, pregnancy, weaning, pairing, and behavioral enrichment.
  • Perform procedures such as C-sections, ultrasounds, nutritional monitoring, dystocia management, and routine health exams for a large population.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in lab animal medicine.
  • DACLAM highly preferred.
  • Clinical experience with non-human primates is highly desirable.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Active DEA registration.
  • Ability to obtain a Texas DVM license within 30 days of the offer.
  • Willingness to work with laboratory animals in a research/laboratory setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, a focus on compliance, and a commitment to animal health and welfare.
