Position Overview:

The Financial Access Counselor plays a crucial role in ensuring patients receive the financial support they need while navigating the healthcare system. This position is essential in maintaining the high standards of customer service that Jefferson Health is known for.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates a commitment to exceptional customer service, aligning with departmental goals.
  • Identifies and addresses customer service challenges, ensuring timely resolutions.
  • Accurately collects and enters patient and guarantor demographic and financial data, guiding them through necessary documentation.
  • Utilizes reports to communicate with insurance providers, confirming benefits and securing required authorizations.
  • Assesses patient eligibility for various assistance programs, completing all necessary applications in accordance with facility protocols.
  • Clarifies insurance benefits and collects any outstanding payments, establishing payment plans when necessary.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of third-party reimbursement processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Exhibits proficiency in all registration and scheduling systems, as well as electronic verification tools.
  • Adheres to financial policies, including self-pay fee schedules and charity care applications.
  • Handles cash transactions and follows cash management protocols effectively.
  • Understands medical necessity screening processes and possesses knowledge of relevant coding systems.
  • Conducts pre-registration tasks, including outreach to healthcare providers and patients.
  • Cross-trains in various departmental functions, ensuring versatility in service delivery.
  • Participates in the onboarding and training of new staff members.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff, case management, and other departments to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Maintains departmental records for reporting and analysis, meeting quality assurance standards.
  • Contributes to departmental objectives related to collections and customer satisfaction.
  • Engages in departmental committees to enhance service delivery.
  • Assists management in organizing departmental initiatives.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of two years of experience in a financial, business office, or customer service setting.

One year of experience in a hospital business office is essential.

Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Familiarity with ICD-9 coding and medical terminology is preferred.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong organizational skills and a positive, self-motivated attitude.

Exceptional customer service abilities and effective communication skills.

Conditions of Employment:
