As a Patient Care Unit Coordinator, your primary role will be to oversee the daily operations within the unit, ensuring efficient workflow and service delivery. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong listening abilities and a commitment to professional and courteous service, whether managing phone inquiries, conveying messages, or welcoming visitors. Key administrative responsibilities include supporting clerical tasks related to patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; coordinating service requests; and managing inventory for the unit. Prior experience in a healthcare environment with clerical responsibilities is preferred.
This position is full-time, with variable night shifts, requiring availability from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. to address patient care needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates clerical processes for patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Maintains accurate inventory and ordering of supplies using Meditech, ensuring timely delivery of necessary items to the unit.
- Supports nursing staff with clerical duties related to intra- and inter-departmental communications.
- Performs various clerical tasks, including answering phone calls, relaying messages, distributing mail, preparing admission charts, scheduling procedures, and greeting visitors.
- Acts as a liaison, providing information and assistance to patients, families, visitors, staff, and physicians.
- Coordinates service requests with IT and maintenance to ensure optimal functionality of equipment.
- Assists in managing the monthly staff schedule and processing PTO requests in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Helps with staff edits in the Kronos system.
- Maintains a clean and organized environment at the nurse's station, ensuring materials are orderly.
- Engages in professional development through workshops and seminars to stay updated on industry trends.
- Adheres to safety protocols to prevent injuries, including understanding MSDS, infection control, and safe lifting techniques.
- Complies with organizational policies and labor agreements.
- Ensures courteous and efficient interactions with team members and support groups, reflecting the organization's values.
- Exhibits professionalism in conduct and appearance, aligning with the standards required for the role.
- Handles additional responsibilities as assigned by management to meet organizational standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proficient in computer and phone skills; familiarity with Meditech EMR system is advantageous.
- Understanding of medical terminology is preferred.
- One to two years of experience in a healthcare setting is desirable.
- Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) certification to be obtained within three months of hire.

- Manual dexterity and capacity to lift/carry up to 10 pounds (supplies and equipment).
- Physical capability to perform CPR if necessary.
- Good visual acuity for reading and assessing distance and space.
- Effective communication skills for accurate information exchange with healthcare professionals and the public.
