Job Overview

Position Summary

This role involves conducting standard diagnostic radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations at a technical level with minimal supervision, including trauma and surgical assessments. The technologist is responsible for preparing and operating fixed radiographic, fluoroscopic, portable x-ray, and c-arm devices while adhering to safety protocols and departmental guidelines. The position emphasizes providing patients with safe, respectful, and efficient care. Flexibility for on-call shifts is required.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Radiology Manager


Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare patients and conduct all examinations while proficiently operating fluoroscopic, x-ray room, and portable x-ray equipment, ensuring adherence to radiation safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
  2. Assist Radiologists during fluoroscopic procedures; may perform minor fluoroscopic tasks under the direction of a Radiologist in accordance with certification standards.
  3. Under physician supervision, may administer contrast materials and/or medications.
  4. Support physicians during fluoroscopic procedures in the operating room.
  5. Set up necessary sterile surgical equipment in compliance with established standards and procedures.
  6. Assist in emergency situations under the guidance of a physician or registered nurse.
  7. Review and assess diagnostic images for technical quality.
  8. Verify patient information and exams conducted, updating and modifying exam descriptions to accurately reflect the procedures performed.
  9. May assist clinical instructors and provide direct training and supervision to student technologists.
  10. Participate in the training and orientation of new X-ray Technicians and Radiologic Technologists.
  11. Utilize PACS, RIS, and current EMR systems efficiently, completing required documentation for each examination.
  12. Maintain cleanliness of x-ray equipment and related minor devices in line with infection control policies. Report malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisory staff.
  13. Comply with all continuing education requirements as mandated by regulatory bodies.
  14. Attend departmental meetings and engage in all mandatory training and in-service sessions.
  15. Contribute to Quality Improvement Programs.
  16. Adhere to As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles, Image Gently principles, and the Image Wisely pledge.
  17. Understand and apply principles of proper body mechanics when assisting patients with transfers, lifting, and ambulation.
  18. Maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate degree in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Washington State Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (RT) license.

Desired:

  • Previous experience in a hospital radiology setting is preferred.
  • One year of clinical experience in diagnostic radiology and fluoroscopy.
  • Certification or registry in additional diagnostic imaging fields.
