This position is integral to the Blue Origin Engines division, focusing on the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of propulsion systems and engines. Our engines are designed for versatility, powering the next generation of rockets for various applications, including commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
Role Responsibilities:
In this system-level engineering role, you will be tasked with managing risk, requiring a deep technical understanding of our engines, the vehicles they propel, and the strategic framework guiding their development. As a key member of a dedicated team of engineers, you will oversee risk and opportunity management for an engine program, enhancing our capacity to develop innovative and safe propulsion systems swiftly. You will also be responsible for managing significant risks that affect multiple engine programs.
Your collaboration with a focused team of systems engineering risk managers will set the standard for risk and opportunity management practices, refining our methodologies, processes, tools, and training initiatives. As a leader in risk management, you will cultivate a culture of risk awareness and proactive management, promoting open dialogue and knowledge sharing among team members.
Key Duties Include:
- Develop and implement risk-informed decision-making processes to enhance strategic program planning.
- Oversee risks and opportunities at both program and business unit levels.
- Facilitate risk development sessions and lead program-level risk decision meetings.
- Ensure high-quality documentation of risk-related information and data.
- Create filters and dashboards utilizing JIRA & Confluence to prioritize actions.
- Analyze risk management data to identify trends and inform continuous improvement.
- Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to optimize risk management efficiency.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to share best practices and enhance the risk management process.
- Conduct training sessions on risk and opportunity management for engineering and program management teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- Over 10 years of experience in system development and integration, preferably in aerospace or complex technical systems.
- Proven track record in managing risks within high-profile aerospace projects.
- Expertise in risk management standards and methodologies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex situations and devise effective mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication skills for leading discussions and mentoring team members.
- Ability to foster teamwork and solve problems collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Atlassian products (JIRA & Confluence).
- Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful resident.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in liquid rocket engine or propulsion system development.
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical or fluid systems design.
- Familiarity with program or project management.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulatory requirements for space missions.
