Position Overview

The Honors College at the Commonwealth of Virginia invites applications for an adjunct instructor to lead students in a four-credit hour Honors capstone course. The instructor will guide students in applying community engagement theory and best practices while deepening their understanding of social issues through community asset mapping, peer-reviewed research, documentaries, and reflection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the Honors College's mission and goals
  • Lead students in community-based projects that address social issues in one of nine priority areas: education, job creation, workforce preparation, social stability, healthy community, transportation, changing demographics, quality of life, and the James River
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive learning environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration
  • Evaluate student progress and provide feedback to ensure academic success

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
  • Commitment to community engagement and social responsibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postsecondary teaching experience
  • Expertise in community engagement, social issues, or related fields
