Overview
Under guidance, this role involves executing skilled tasks related to the fabrication, assembly, installation, modification, and maintenance of sheet metal components while overseeing the activities of designated Journeymen and assistants.
Primary Duties
- Supervises a team of Sheet Metal Workers engaged in the fabrication, assembly, installation, modification, and maintenance of sheet metal products.
- Assists in strategizing work assignments for Sheet Metal Workers.
- Monitors work progress, delivers instructions, and provides training on job responsibilities and safety protocols.
- Organizes work, shapes metal, assembles components, and operates essential machinery for the fabrication and installation tasks.
- Requests tools, equipment, supplies, and materials necessary for project completion.
- Ensures adherence to safety standards and practices throughout the work process.
Additional Duties
- Oversees the management and upkeep of hand and power tools required for sheet metal operations.
- Conducts bench and machine tasks such as surface grinding.
- Reviews work schedules, time-off requests, and vacation plans.
- Completes other assigned responsibilities as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of sheet metal operations and associated risks.
- Expertise in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Basic proficiency in computer applications.
- Capability to plan, assign, and oversee tasks effectively.
- Experience with oxyacetylene and electric arc welding techniques.
Educational Background
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience as a journeyman Sheet Metal Worker.
Substitution Policy
Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Promotional Criteria
- At least one year of prior service as a Sheet Metal Worker within the organization.
- Civil service status as a Sheet Metal Worker.
