About the Role

The Department of Space Instruments and Payloads at Southwest Research Institute is seeking a skilled Computer Systems Engineer or Embedded Software Developer to join our team. As a key member of our software group, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and managing embedded software for space applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Support the design, analysis, documentation, verification, and test of embedded software for space applications, including command and control, data storage, signal processing, and communications.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Participate in the full lifecycle design for related flight software in high reliability systems for space applications; perform analysis and implement designs from concept to delivery. Work effectively with a team of engineers across the technical spectrum, providing task updates, recommending technical solutions, and creating technical documentation.
  • Technical Expertise: Design, implement, build, and debug embedded software solutions for a variety of spacecraft systems. Support simulation, analysis, and test of software to verify technical performance. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the department's software processes and methodologies.
  • Education and Experience: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. 0-3 years of experience in software development, with a strong background in C/C++, Python, Linux, RTOS/VxWorks, Networking and Communication, Source Control, and Continuous Integration.
Requirements
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and version control systems is a plus.
