Forestry Laborer Position

Job Summary: The City of Chicopee's Department of Public Works - Forestry Department is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Forestry Laborer to join their team. As a key member of the department, you will assist with various forestry operations, including tree removal, pruning, and planting, under the supervision of the City Arborist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the removal and pruning of trees to maintain a safe and healthy urban forest.
  • Assist in maintaining the city tree nursery, ensuring the health and well-being of trees and plants.
  • Operate various forestry equipment, including chainsaws and blowers, to perform tasks such as chipping brush and stump grinding.
  • Perform upkeep on equipment and assist with repairs as needed.
  • Participate in aerial work for other city departments, such as holiday light installation and inspections of public facilities.
  • Assist with snow operations and be available for overtime as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum 1 year's experience in municipal public work's operation or similar type of labor work
  • Massachusetts Class D Driver's license
  • Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP) Certification and First Aid/CPR certification to be obtained within 6 months
