About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Specialty Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Advocate Aurora Health. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of medications.

Responsibilities
  • Perform complex pharmaceutical processes and services within assigned areas, utilizing advanced skills and knowledge beyond those obtained as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Work in atypical environments such as compounding, remote dispensaries, or medication history.
  • Serve as an expert with equipment and technology in specialized areas, problem-solving technical issues as they arise.
  • Identify quality improvement opportunities based on specialized skill sets to ensure safe, effective, and efficient services and patient care.
  • Provide input to and support the implementation of operational changes, advancements, and site and system standardization.
  • Participate in site or system specialized work teams, committees, and councils.
  • Be a role model in clinical support needs, such as DIR fees.
  • Comply with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, keeping current with changes in the specialized field and collaborating with department leadership to adopt best practices.
  • Hold others accountable to best practices in the specialized area.
  • Serve as a resource in the specialized area for other pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments, problem-solving complex problems and ensuring issues are escalated and closed as needed.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to develop and coordinate team member education, training, orientation, and competency, training other team members in specialized areas.
  • Serve as the department liaison to system pharmacy teams in specialty areas, collaborating with leadership to communicate changes in specialty areas.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in providing services as a Pharmacy Technician, depending on specialty area.
  • Good mathematical skills.
  • Attention to details.
  • Exceptional customer service, communication, organization, problem resolution, and process development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and take initiative.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach about shoulders throughout the work day.
  • Lifts, carries, and/or pushes/pulls various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.
  • Ability to deliver medications to via patient preferred mode (bedside, curbside, etc).
  • Flexibility to travel amongst Aurora Pharmacy locations.
