Summit Design and Engineering is in search of a qualified Senior Land Surveying Specialist to become part of our team in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee multiple simultaneous projects involving control surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, boundary surveys, route/corridor surveys, as-built surveys, and construction staking.
- Draft proposals, negotiate contract terms and fees, and engage in project accounting and billing.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and manage quality assurance for project outputs.
- Facilitate coordination and communication with project stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior staff members.
- Conduct CAD drafting, data processing, and other survey-related tasks as necessary.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- NC Professional Land Surveying licensure or the ability to obtain it within six months.
- A minimum of eight years of progressive experience in land surveying is preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of surveying practices, methodologies, techniques, and standards.
- At least three years of experience in a management or supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated project management capabilities.
- Strong leadership and effective communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a solid grasp of mapping concepts.
- Self-driven with proficient time management skills.
- Extensive experience with GNSS surveying.
- Experience with robotic total stations and precise differential leveling surveys.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Skilled in Trimble or equivalent survey data processing software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to travel.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, or an engineering discipline.
- Professional land surveying licensure from additional southeastern states is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of Bentley MicroStation.
- Experience with GIS data collection and Esri ArcGIS Pro software.
- Familiarity with terrestrial laser scanning.
- Experience with photogrammetric and LiDAR aerial surveys.
- Knowledge of NCDOT route location survey practices and procedures.
- Certified Drone Pilot (Remote Pilot Certificate; FAA Part 107).
Working Conditions:
This role is primarily office-based but requires site visits and occasional overnight travel. The work environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and client-focused.
Physical Requirements:
The position involves extended periods of sitting or standing at a computer, traveling to and from project sites, and carrying survey equipment weighing up to 45 pounds when working in the field.
