POSITION OVERVIEW

The Meat Procurement Specialist is accountable for the acquisition, meticulous inventory management, and systematic rotation of all fresh meat and related products available for member retailers. The role is pivotal in enhancing sales of these products while ensuring purchases are made at the most competitive prices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate must possess the capability to execute the responsibilities outlined below. This list is not exhaustive and may include additional tasks as directed by the department head or upper management, but serves to clarify the role's objectives. Each individual at Associated Wholesale Grocers is expected to deliver exceptional customer service to our members, thereby supporting their efforts to boost same-store sales and profitability.

1. Facilitate orders via telephone and/or directly with vendor representatives.

2. Engage with members over the phone to take orders, provide current pricing, and negotiate bulk purchases.

3. Coordinate the receipt of meat products with warehouse and logistics teams to ensure accurate quantities and product freshness.

4. Negotiate to secure the best possible prices while staying informed on market trends and conditions.

5. Address and resolve any issues that arise with member stores regarding meat suppliers.

6. Review daily meat receipts, accounts payable documents, and supplier invoices for accuracy.

7. Maintain up-to-date records on all assigned items and inventory through the computer system.

8. Conduct inspections of coolers to assess product quality and ensure proper rotation.

9. Analyze all promotional sales, A-Maps, and pre-booked items.

10. Utilize computer systems to generate purchase orders and maintain accurate records for all assigned items.

11. Apply basic mathematical skills to determine required quantities and assess gains and losses from price fluctuations.

12. Make informed purchasing decisions on a daily basis.

13. Employ effective communication skills when interacting with members and suppliers.

14. Operate office equipment such as calculators, copiers, and fax machines.

15. Demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend all relevant product and market information.

16. Collaborate as a member of the Associated Wholesale Grocers team to fulfill all job responsibilities, emphasizing cooperation, integrity, and respect in dealings with members, colleagues, and management.

QUALIFICATIONS: To excel in this role, candidates must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Experience in retail grocery or wholesale grocery operations is preferred. While a degree is not mandatory, relevant work experience in retail is advantageous; a minimum of years in related fields of grocery retail or wholesale is expected, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a minimum of years in a management capacity.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence. Capable of effectively communicating before groups of customers or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Competence in applying basic algebra and geometry concepts.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Proficient in interpreting various instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule formats.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A valid Driver's License is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
