About the Role

As a Youth Counselor at YWCA Minneapolis, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal growth of middle school youth in the Beacons afterschool program. This dynamic position requires a strong ability to lead engaging activities, develop and deepen relationships with youth, and work collaboratively with the Beacons staff team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement comprehensive programming, including leading activities that are age-appropriate and culturally relevant, and collaborating with program co-workers to create a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as distributing and collecting registration forms, implementing program evaluation methods, and utilizing the program's online data management system.
  • Seek continuous professional development, including participating in learning experiences, developing and enriching activity opportunities, and collaborating with Girls & Youth Program Managers and Program Coordinators.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and minimum age 18 years old.
  • Ability to lead activities with youth in an after-school setting, and excellent initiative to carry out tasks and responsibilities independently and in a team setting.
  • Commitment to respecting and valuing the backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of all youth in the program, and ability to communicate with school staff and families in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Health and safety requirements, including CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to be certified within the first 90 days.
