Position Overview
As a vital member of our Construction Management Team, the Transportation Inspection Specialist will engage in the application of standard inspection protocols on various transportation projects. This role focuses on ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to project specifications during and after construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of contractor operations across diverse transportation initiatives, including roadway and bridge construction, to confirm compliance with established plans and specifications.
- Perform routine material testing to ensure quality standards are met.
- Measure and monitor quantities of pay items accurately.
- Compile and maintain essential documentation, including material certifications, testing reports, and daily inspection logs.
- Execute additional related tasks as required.
Nonessential Duties
- Assist with other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution; or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Possession of a valid driver's license is mandatory.
- NCDOT certifications such as Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing are preferred.
- Experience in construction inspection on NCDOT projects is advantageous.
Work Environment
This position involves fieldwork, requiring the ability to operate safely in outdoor environments with potential exposure to construction site hazards, including heights and traffic. Candidates must be capable of performing moderate physical activities, such as walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing, and should be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Flexibility to work nights and weekends may be necessary.
