We are seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Engineer for our esteemed Pogo operation in Alaska, working on a rotational camp schedule.

Role Responsibilities:

  • The Geotechnical Engineer will report to the Mine Superintendent, primarily responsible for managing geotechnical issues to safely meet production goals.

Key Duties Include:

  • Identifying and addressing geotechnical hazards.
  • Establishing and maintaining site systems and standards for effective geotechnical risk management.
  • Reviewing mining instructions and stope designs, providing recommendations for safe extraction.
  • Ensuring compliance with company and statutory regulations.
  • Regularly updating Ground Control Management Plans (GCMP).
  • Conducting geotechnical evaluations and risk assessments to manage hazards effectively.
  • Collecting and analyzing geotechnical data related to rockfall events.
  • Collaborating with Geologists, Surveyors, Engineers, Managers, and Operators.
  • Assisting in the reporting of mine geotechnical parameters on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the mining sector, particularly in underground hard rock geotechnical roles.
  • Familiarity with underground mining techniques (e.g., long hole open stoping, air leg stoping, jumbo stoping).
  • Basic experience in numerical modeling.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Mine Design Software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Datamine, Rocscience Software).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Adaptability to evolving procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Ability to pass a background check and physical examination.

Work Schedule:

This position involves a 15 days on, 13 days off schedule, with shifts lasting up to 12 hours or more at a remote campsite. Candidates should be prepared for extreme conditions, including variable weather, dust, noise, and confined work areas.

Employees will reside at the company-provided camp during their work rotation, which includes dining services, recreational facilities, and comfortable accommodation. The camp is equipped with essential amenities, including Wi-Fi and cable TV.
