Position Overview

The Clinical Apheresis Nurse will take charge of the daily operations associated with the collection of plateletpheresis, leukapheresis, and whole blood. Collaborate with fellow donor room personnel to guarantee a seamless workflow and effective production of blood products. The role requires interaction with various departments to uphold the integrity and quality of daily processes.

Key Responsibilities


• Employ appropriate aseptic techniques to plan, execute, and document the following procedures in line with HemaCare Donor Center policies and protocols.

• Conduct automated plateletpheresis and leukapheresis, including setup, operation, quality control, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.

• Perform white blood cell collections and other specialized procedures as necessary.

• Execute whole blood procedures.

• Make necessary adjustments to apheresis machines based on product integrity and the physical condition of the donor.

• Demonstrate expertise in venous access and the identification and management of donor reactions.

• Exhibit proficiency in assessing blood donor medical histories.

• Evaluate laboratory reports accurately.

• Handle information regarding positive test results appropriately.

• Collaborate effectively as a team member, sometimes communicating non-verbally under pressure and time constraints.

• Maintain professionalism consistently.

• Convey warmth and compassion in interactions.

• Understand and utilize the Blood Establishment Computer Software (BECS) effectively.

• Oversee the evaluation, management, and documentation of donor reactions, post-donation reports, risk management reports, and customer complaint forms.

• Provide technical and clinical support to staff as required.

• Prepare all documentation related to daily production.

• Foster positive communication with collaborating departments.

• Ensure the accurate completion of all donor records.

• Adhere strictly to all safety and quality protocols and regulations.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Licensure


• A minimum of 2 years of experience in acute care nursing.

• Preferably 3 years of prior experience in blood banking, apheresis, and phlebotomy.

• An associate degree in healthcare is required; a BSN is preferred.

• Must possess current state RN licensure.

• Current BLS certification is necessary.

Technical Skills


• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to quickly adapt to new software programs as needed.

• Strong phlebotomy skills, including the ability to assess venous integrity and recognize signs of citrate sensitivity and other related conditions.

• Methodical, organized, and detail-oriented approach to tasks.

• Computer literate.

• Previous experience with Electronic Medical Record Software (EMR) is beneficial.

• Experience with Blood Establishment Computer Software (BECS) is preferred.

Compensation

The compensation for this role is competitive, with a pay range of $46.78 per hour. Please note that salaries may vary within this range based on factors such as experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
