Job Summary

The Cardiac Monitoring Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by accurately interpreting electrocardiogram (EKG) readings and identifying potential cardiac events. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication to work collaboratively with the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret EKG readings to identify atrial and ventricular rates and rhythms
  • Measure EKG waveforms to determine appropriate treatment of arrhythmias and immediate intervention of life-threatening situations
  • Perform cardiac monitoring by continuously observing monitor screens for proper waveform on each telemetry patient
  • Recognize, record, and inform the nurse of abnormalities/changes in patient waveforms
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment and supplies
  • Admit and discharge patients out of telemetry system in accordance with unit policy
  • Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives
  • Notify the nurse immediately of loss of clear telemetry signal and arrange for coverage when leaving the monitor room
Requirements
  • Minimum Education: High School or GED
  • Experience: Prior telemetry monitoring experience/EKG monitoring in a hospital setting REQUIRED
