Job Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor in Sociocultural Anthropology to join our department at the University of California, Davis. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field and a strong research agenda that addresses contemporary issues of global significance.

The ideal candidate will have a rigorous, theoretically and methodologically innovative field research agenda that engages some of the critical concerns of our time. This includes addressing the different and creative ways humans have responded to challenges such as escalating xenophobia and racism, intensifying environmental change, or growing global inequalities in wealth and health. We also seek applicants who respond to these challenges by experimenting with creative forms of scholarship and modes of thinking.

The position is a nine-month appointment within the Department of Anthropology. The proposed start date is July 1, 2025. Teaching duties will be four courses per academic year (quarter system) at the introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate level. Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct innovative research in Sociocultural Anthropology

Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related field by the first day of courses (September 2025)

• Strong research agenda that addresses contemporary issues of global significance

• Ability to teach and mentor students at the introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate level

• Commitment to the highest standards of scholarship and professional activities

• Commitment to the development of a campus environment that supports equality and diversity
