Position Overview
We are in search of a Materials Science Engineer to join our Applications Engineering team. This department plays a crucial role in supporting various sectors within the organization, including sales, engineering, manufacturing, production, and quality assurance. The ideal candidate will concentrate on laser technologies to drive profitability, enhance efficiency, boost productivity, and increase sales volume, ultimately ensuring that Preco surpasses customer expectations.
This position necessitates a robust foundation in material science, particularly in metals, along with expertise in laser technology. Knowledge in areas such as heat treating, laser hardening, localized heat treating, surface hardening, annealing, tempering, and precision hardening is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Development:
· Facilitate and assist in executing process development demonstrations, intricate test studies, and research utilizing Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies.
· Assess the feasibility of new and complex applications.
· Continuously evaluate services provided to customers to identify innovative approaches for enhancing customer satisfaction (including new equipment, alternative processes, and improved quality/service).
· Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality teams to draft technical, quality, and production procedures for the CMS division.
· Lead the development and implementation of system Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for the LED division.
· Engage in system design evaluations.
· Assist in the selection and management of significant, long-term development initiatives in targeted markets.
· Contribute to guiding corporate business strategies.
· Draft or assist in the creation of test reports, white papers, and lead webinars, as well as present at industry trade shows.
Technical Support Services:
· Support sales teams with precise quotations, estimates, and proposals.
· Collaborate with customers on new and challenging applications.
· Provide on-site technical support by visiting customer facilities.
· Generate technical reports and publications for promotional purposes.
· Propose solutions to processing challenges.
· Innovate new methods to meet customer requirements.
· Enhance and support existing laser processes.
· Participate in trade shows and customer facility visits.
Qualifications:
· A minimum of a four-year degree in metallurgy or engineering.
· 5 to 10 years of relevant industrial experience in heat treating, welding, and/or additive manufacturing.
· Proficiency in laser technology.
· Strong interpersonal, leadership, written communication, and computer skills.
· Familiarity with laser processing equipment and techniques, CNC programming, and dimensional tolerancing.
· Ability to interpret and analyze blueprints, specifications, and purchase agreements.
· A collaborative spirit, working effectively with both sales and engineering teams.
· Willingness to travel as needed.
