Job Summary

The Department of Pharmaceutical Services at the University of California provides a comprehensive range of services for patients cared for by the Medical Center and its providers. These services include drug procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate, and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; development of drug use policies; drug information services; and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs.

The Staff Pharmacist II - Acute Care Float Pool position provides pharmaceutical care to patients at all acute care pharmacy locations within the UCSF Health System. They may also be asked to participate in pharmaceutical care in other sectors of the Department of Pharmaceutical Services as needed. The position performs a wide range of pharmaceutical care functions to ensure that drugs prescribed for and used by patients are safe and effective. These include obtaining medication histories, reviewing and assessing medication profiles, providing drug information to patients and healthcare providers, collaborating with clinicians on drugs of choice and therapeutic plans, ensuring access to medications, educating patients on the proper use of medications, and ensuring that patients understand cautions, adverse reactions, and interactions related to their therapy.

The Staff Pharmacist II - Acute Care Float Pool position will be part of an interprofessional team consisting of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other professionals. The position will be based primarily in the inpatient pharmacy setting managing specific patient populations if applicable. Depending on the assigned shift and site, the position may also oversee pharmacy technicians to facilitate insurance authorizations for medications, as well as prepare and dispense prescription medications and pharmaceutical products for patient care. The position may also be responsible for the oversight of clinical activities and delivery of services.

An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate and the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role. Department Description

The Department of Pharmaceutical Services at UCSF has a long history of providing innovative clinical pharmacy services. Today, the department continues to lead the profession through the integration of advanced technology and robotics, comprehensive pharmaceutical care, and clinical services. The department is affiliated with the UCSF Department of Clinical Pharmacy, an academic department within the School of Pharmacy, which has primary responsibility for teaching professional courses in the Pharm.D. curriculum, clinical research, and public and clinical service.

Required Qualifications

A Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) or equivalent degree as determined by the National Board of Pharmacy is required. Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and/or Fellowship, or at least 3 years of Oncology/Infusion experience, is preferred. Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency and/or Fellowship, or at least 3 years of Oncology/Infusion experience, is also preferred. Advanced board certification, such as BCOP, BCPPS, or BCPS, is preferred. Operational experience in Oncology and/or Infusion Pharmacy is also preferred. Experience in sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous drugs is preferred. A current license in good standing to practice pharmacy in the State of California is required. Current certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required.
