Medical Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities- Room and prepare patients for exams, treatments, and procedures by taking medical histories, vital signs, and obtaining last visit notes and/or lab results.
- Explain tests or procedures and inform patients of test results, instructing them on urine or fecal specimen collection and following up on test results.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medication and immunization records.
- Utilize Standard Precautions to clean and organize exam rooms, sterilize equipment, dispose of bio-hazardous materials, and manage autoclave wrapping.
- Act as the primary contact for patients, greeting them upon arrival, registering and checking them in, preparing paperwork for visits, and verifying and updating patient information.
- Collect co-payments from patients and answer telephones, scheduling patient appointments with providers, reminding patients of upcoming appointments, and explaining logistics related to appointments.
- Coordinate and schedule services for patients and providers, maintaining provider daily schedules and communicating changes, preparing charts with necessary paperwork, and coordinating pre-authorizations and referrals.
- Manage information such as filing, pharmacy refill lines, release and receipt of records, x-rays, referrals, pre-authorizations, and quality checks on charge slips.
- Provide patients with generic preoperative and postoperative information and manage office supplies, coordinating durable medical equipment delivery and return, maintaining stock and patient education materials, and sorting mail and other communications.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 6 months of experience in a medical office or clinic, or graduation from an accredited Medical Administrative Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Medical Assistant program.
- Medical Assistant Registered (MA-R) through the State of Washington, sponsored by Virginia Mason, required within 60 days of hire.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and a professional demeanor with a positive, upbeat attitude, strong communication skills, and excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrative and clinical staff, leaders, patients, and physicians.
