We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underwriting Senior Consultant to join our team at Sun Life Financial. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for evaluating and selecting risk, establishing premium levels, and ensuring the profitable acquisition of new cases and retention of in-force cases.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate and select risk, making appropriate decisions on premium levels and business strategies.
- Analyze and identify early and ongoing risk trends for assigned clients, making recommendations for addressing these trends.
- Develop personal credibility as a subject matter expert and go-to resource on complex issues with clients and peers.
- Provide developmental feedback on case-level decisions within the context of a mentoring relationship.
- Independently make financial risk decisions of up to $500,000 within defined guidelines.
- Minimum 5-10 years of group insurance underwriting experience required; college degree preferred.
- Mastery of disability products, including product provisions, plan design, pricing, and contractual benefits.
- Knowledge of the reinsurance process.
- Knowledge of complex insurance risk issues and dynamics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry and marketplace trends within the local marketplace for assigned clients.
- Creative problem-solving and analytical reasoning skills.
- Strong math aptitude.
- Strong mentoring and coaching skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to be persuasive and to negotiate.
- Ability to give presentations and speak in a public setting.
- Ability to work independently and address problems through own initiative and creativity.
- Well-organized and able to handle multiple priorities.
- Strong computer skills, proficient in a PC environment and MS Word, Excel, and email systems.
- Ability to work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, claimants, vendors, and others with whom Sun Life Financial does business.
