Salary and Benefits

As an Emergency Response Specialist, you can expect an estimated annual salary of $68,355.76 for Fire Fighter/EMT and $70,532.80 for Fire Fighter/Paramedic positions. The salary includes a base salary of $58,216.47 and $60,070.58 respectively, naturally occurring overtime pay of $7,604.47 and $7,846.67 respectively, and holiday pay of $2,534.82 and $2,615.55 respectively.

The county offers outstanding health and financial benefits, including a 15% 401K match and an additional 457 for vested employees. You will also receive dental insurance with two plans from Delta Dental, vision insurance with office visit copays and lenses, frames, and contacts coverage, basic life and AD&D insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and a retirement plan with a 100% match on the first 5% of pay contributed after five years of employment.

To be eligible for this position, you must undergo and pass a thorough background investigation, deception detection exam, psychological exam, NFPA 1500 medical exams, and drug screen. You must also have a State of Georgia EMT-Intermediate or higher certification, be NPQ/IFSAC Firefighter I and II certified, and have a minimum of two years of experience as an active firefighter in a full-time paid department.

Job Description

As an Emergency Response Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to respond to emergency situations involving fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, and vehicle accidents. You will evaluate the scene upon arrival, direct co-workers and other responding agencies, and ensure that all necessary actions are taken to mitigate the situation.

You will also be responsible for maintaining a high level of physical and mental readiness through education, training, and physical fitness. This includes staying up-to-date on the latest techniques and technologies, participating in regular drills and exercises, and adhering to safety protocols at all times.

Additionally, you will be responsible for assuring that personal and departmental equipment and apparatus are in good working order, ensuring operational readiness. You will also be expected to comply with all legal rules, orders, and instructions issued by chain-of-command and uphold the mission, vision, and values of the Forsyth County Fire Department.
