About the Externship

Our Veterinary Technician/Nurse Student Externship Program offers vet tech/nursing students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in emergency medicine. Students will work alongside our credentialed veterinary technicians, honing their skills in patient care, laboratory procedures, and emergency triage. This externship is an excellent way for students to gain practical experience and build their confidence in a fast-paced emergency environment.

Program Details

  • Flexibility: Students can choose the length of their externship to meet their school's requirements.
  • Location: Students can select from various hospital locations, subject to availability.
  • Mentorship: Students will be supported by a credentialed veterinary technician.
  • Focus: Students will be fully immersed in the challenges and rewards of emergency veterinary medicine.

Requirements

  • Students must be currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology/nursing program and require externship hours for graduation.
  • The externship must begin within six months of application.
  • Students must be vaccinated for rabies, unless their school's rabies mitigation policy allows unvaccinated students to handle unvaccinated animals.
