The Patient Sitter is tasked with overseeing designated patients within the healthcare facility. This role includes assisting with meals and notifying medical staff of any patient requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional, provides dedicated observation services for patients requiring 1:1 attention.
- Ensures patient safety by maintaining a vigilant watch over their environment.
- Reports any concerning behaviors, such as attempts to leave the bed or tampering with medical devices, to the nursing staff immediately.
- May assist in basic patient care tasks as directed by a licensed professional.
- Must ensure that high-risk patients, including those at risk of self-harm, are never left unattended. The Patient Sitter is responsible for maintaining visual contact with the patient at all times, including during personal care activities.
- Adheres to safety protocols for suicidal patients as outlined in the facility's policies.
- Communicates effectively with the patient care team, including nurses and nursing assistants, to receive updates on the patient's condition and care plan at the start of each shift and provide handover before concluding duties.
- Accompanies patients during off-unit procedures, ensuring they are not taken to non-medical areas such as cafeterias or gift shops.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
