We are seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Systems Administrator to join our team at the City of Suffolk. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an individual with expertise in public safety information systems, network administration, and software development.

Job Description

This position plays a critical role in the development, operation, administration, and management of public safety information systems used in Police, Fire & Rescue, Sheriff, and E911 Dispatch Centers. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Administering and maintaining Police and Fire Information Technology (IT) systems used in the Public Safety dispatch center.
  • Investigating, analyzing, and resolving public safety application related problems; resolving compatibility problems; troubleshoots system software, hardware, and communication problems; recommends and implements changes and improvements.
  • Serving as a liaison with system software and hardware suppliers and vendors; monitors contracted services for quality and compliance with City standards.
  • Working with the IT Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team to maintain comprehensive GIS data in relation to the public safety departments and its integration with CAD, MCT, and other interfaces.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer systems development, maintenance, and administration, including knowledge of VMware vSphere or Nutanix AHV environments for virtual server administration and maintenance, Microsoft server and endpoint operating systems, Microsoft Office product suites, and Microsoft server roles and features.

This position requires excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, members of the public, and other groups involved in the activities of the department.

The estimated salary for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
