Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Food Service Worker to join our team at the Veterans Canteen Service located at the White River Junction, VT, VA Medical Center. As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for providing quality service to our nation's veterans by preparing and serving food, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and ensuring excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve food, including making coffee, latte, cappuccino, smoothies, and prepping food items such as breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, wraps, pancakes, and burritos.
  • Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware, and store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage.
  • Prepare a variety of foods according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, subject to hot and cold temperatures, and be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
Requirements
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to read and interpret instructions and perform basic arithmetic used in food preparation.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in the food service industry and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Requires constant standing, walking, and frequent bending, and must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.

Skills & Requirements
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to read and interpret instructions and perform basic arithmetic used in food preparation.

  • Participation in the seasonal influenza and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Vaccination programs are requirements for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
