Position Overview

The faculty physician will oversee the medical care of pediatric patients in both clinical and hospital settings, while also engaging in research, educational initiatives, and advocacy as directed by the Division Chief and/or Center leadership.

Qualifications

Education Requirements
Medical Doctor (M.D.) from an accredited institution (Mandatory)

Experience Requirements
No prior experience required (Mandatory)

Essential Skills and Knowledge
Familiarity with contemporary medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment methods in the specialty area.
Understanding of legal and ethical standards in medical practice.
Capability to independently assess patient issues and formulate care plans.
Ability to integrate ethical considerations into patient interactions and discuss these with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Competence in supervising and mentoring clinical staff and/or students in the specialty.
Commitment to maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards.
Demonstrates ongoing commitment to Continuing Medical Education and staying updated on advancements in the field.

Licenses and Certifications
Must hold a valid medical license and credentials as an attending physician at Children's National Medical Center (Mandatory)
Board certification or eligibility in primary specialty (Mandatory)
Board certification in relevant secondary specialty (Preferred)

Key Responsibilities

Commitment to Exceptional Care

  • Deliver clinical services to pediatric patients at designated facilities in a professional and timely manner.
  • Supervise the medical care team and manage direct patient care for a defined population; enhance continuity of care and partnerships with community providers through effective communication.
  • Provide on-call services as required by division leadership.
  • Engage in family-centered care and communicate compassionately; refer patients to specialists and ancillary services as necessary.
  • Utilize established communication protocols effectively.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from team members and external providers; clearly communicate expectations regarding patient updates and significant clinical changes.

Advocacy Commitment

  • Engage in advocacy initiatives of CNMC.
  • Contribute to public policy efforts aimed at enhancing pediatric health and well-being.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment and preventive care techniques.
  • Participate in health promotion and education programs.

Research Commitment

  • Conduct significant research in clinical and translational science relevant to the specialty.
  • Review manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Publish findings in reputable scientific journals.
  • Apply for grants to fund research projects.
  • Engage in research committees and special interest groups.

Educational Commitment

  • Participate in medical education programs through collaborative learning activities.
  • Engage in educational programs at various levels.
  • Provide constructive feedback to trainees.
  • Ensure proper orientation for trainees in patient care.

  • Adhere to established policies, procedures, and quality improvement objectives.
  • Complete all clinical documentation promptly as required by regulatory bodies.
  • Identify and recommend improvements in patient services.
  • Participate in the development and revision of medical practice policies.
