Job Summary:

The Lead Engineer - Electric System Specialist will lead engineering activities for electric transmission and system protection projects. This includes planning, controlling, and managing project activities to effectively complete engineering and design for construction projects. The successful candidate will provide liaison with other departments, divisions, vendors, or consultants and coordinate with government agencies, customers, other utilities, or groups.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform engineering analysis of the electric transmission system and recommend actions to develop design options or recommendations for protective relay system to minimize customer outages due to equipment failure or system malfunction.
  2. Engineer detailed designs and perform engineering calculations.
  3. Originate electric system and component reliability studies, outage contingency plans, and capital budget proposals, including a complete business case.
  4. Recommend system improvements, develop economic project proposals for improvements, and provide project management for major transmission construction projects.
  5. Develop and validate information needed for engineering analyses and apply engineering judgment to solve complex technical problems.
  6. Direct engineering contractors and consultants.
  7. Provide construction management, including coordinating field construction transmission lines, developing technical specifications, standards, contracts, and purchase orders, and administering contract terms and conditions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in electric transmission systems planning, operations, and/or protection.
  • Knowledge of running and analyzing electric power load flows.
  • Knowledge of FERC and state regulations.
