Position Overview:

As a key member of our healthcare team, the Optometrist will be responsible for delivering comprehensive eye care services under the guidance of the Regional Chief of Optometry. This role involves assessing visual health and performance through advanced instrumentation and thorough observation, while also prescribing necessary corrective measures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts detailed examinations of patients presenting a wide array of visual challenges, including gathering case histories and reviewing available medical documentation.
  • Evaluates the eyes and surrounding structures for any signs of pathology.
  • Utilizes a comprehensive range of optometric instruments and techniques to assess visual functionality.
  • Identifies visual impairments and prescribes corrective lenses as needed.
  • Fitting and prescribing contact lenses tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Assesses the visual requirements of individuals with partial sight.
  • Recommends low-vision aids, including telescopic and microscopic lenses, magnifiers, and other optical devices to assist patients with low vision.
  • Handles ocular emergencies with appropriate care and urgency.
  • Prescribes medications when deemed necessary.
  • Refers patients exhibiting potential ocular pathology to an Ophthalmologist for further evaluation.
  • Collaborates with other Kaiser Permanente providers for comprehensive patient care.
  • Engages in departmental meetings and educational sessions, including peer review activities.
  • Demonstrates commitment to service excellence and adherence to the KP Service Quality Credo and Mission.
  • Ensures compliance with Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct and relevant regulations.
  • Responds appropriately to any observed instances of fraud or abuse.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited optometry college, with current licensure as an Optometrist in the State of Colorado, including certification for the use of diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceutical agents.
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code are required upon hiring.
Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of clinical experience and completion of an ocular disease residency is preferred.
