Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Senior Safety Systems Engineer. This position is essential for ensuring that the products developed and delivered by NESCO Inc. are safe for operational use.

The Senior Safety Systems Engineer will apply advanced System Safety Engineering methodologies to evaluate the primary product and its associated subsystems. The key responsibility involves conducting thorough hazard assessments in alignment with established safety standards and contractual obligations.

The Senior Engineer will assess and propose safety features and controls for system architecture, software, training programs, and operational procedures to effectively mitigate or eliminate potential hazards.

Additionally, the role encompasses the creation and maintenance of safety documentation to meet both customer and contractual specifications. The candidate will collaborate closely with systems and software engineering teams to define architecture, develop use cases, and produce software safety analyses in accordance with government regulations.

It is expected that the Senior Engineer can operate autonomously with minimal supervision, leveraging their professional expertise and educational background.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Support program initiatives by developing hazard analyses, software safety evaluations, and hazardous material management strategies.
  • Analyze and recommend safety criteria for system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations during technical reviews and customer briefings.
  • Coordinate and lead System Safety Working Group (SSWG) meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Flow down system safety requirements to suppliers and verify design implementation.
  • Assist in the development and verification of requirements.
  • Review specifications, technical documentation, and design modifications for potential impacts on system safety.
  • Support customer and operational range requirements.
  • Participate in the development of testing activities to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
  • Prepare technical documentation and presentation materials for independent safety board meetings to secure approval on system designs.
  • Engage in accident investigations related to product or facility damage and assist in identifying root causes and corrective measures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in developing and implementing a System Safety Program in accordance with established safety standards.
  • Proficient in developing and evaluating system safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with implementing a Software Safety Program in line with industry guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards and associated analyses.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver formal presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment with engineers, suppliers, program managers, and customers.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in supporting independent government Safety Review Boards.
  • Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with missile and launcher systems.
  • Understanding of model-based engineering concepts.
  • Experience with requirements management applications.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to perform tasks with minimal guidance.
