Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Reporting Analyst (Accountant IV-VI) to join our team at the Comptroller's Office. As a key member of our Fiscal Management team, you will play a critical role in resolving accounting and reporting issues at a statewide and agency level.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in resolving accounting and reporting issues at a statewide and agency level.
  • Analyze reporting requirements and implement changes to statewide accounting procedures and systems.
  • Research Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements.
  • Prepare the State of Texas Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Provide technical and financial accounting assistance to state agencies.
  • Reconcile USAS interagency activity and prepare and enter correcting accounting entries.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Three (3) years general ledger accounting functions.
  • Experience with automated accounting system software (i.e. USAS, CAPPS, MIP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Microsoft Office applications (primarily Excel and Word).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Accounting or an advanced degree in other related field (e.g. Finance).
  • State AFR or ACFR experience.
  • State governmental or higher education accounting/auditing experience.
  • Federal/State grants, bonds, investments, and/or capital asset accounting practices.
Substitutions:

One year of experience performing general ledger accounting or financial reporting duties may substitute for thirty semester hours of educational requirement with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years).

Licenses and Certifications:

Certified Public Accountant is preferred.

This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking), talking, lifting and hearing are routinely required to carry out some duties.

The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies.

It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.

Marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements are required to read printed materials and read computer screens and the ability to communicate with external customers.

The individual must be able to lift, pull, physically handle, and transport documents, boxes, and all related information, weighing up to 20 pounds when required.
