Job Title: Deputy Director Government Affairs

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Director of Government Affairs to join our team at Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). As a key member of our Government Affairs team, you will play a critical role in advancing our legislative, regulatory, and advocacy priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Government Affairs team in building and enhancing collaborative relationships with congressional staff, federal agency staff, and other stakeholders to advance WWP's advocacy priorities.
  • Develop and implement advocacy campaigns for high-priority policy initiatives at the federal and state levels.
  • Oversee WWP's lobbying activity before Congress, including identifying priorities, establishing team goals, and establishing operating procedures.
  • Coordinate engagement with federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense, to ensure regular attendance at meetings and informed representation of WWP's public policy priorities.
  • Prepare internal and external communications, including emails, reports, memos, and presentations, and other internal and external communications.
  • Collect and analyze data to assist the Government Affairs team in decision-making and subsequent reporting to leadership on activities and results.
  • Prepare reports on federal, legislative, and regulatory matters of interest to WWP.
  • Manage the development of congressional testimony, congressional roundtable remarks, and talking points, and federal agency rulemaking comments.
  • Support the Government Affairs Director with various projects and activities, including team budgeting process, strategic planning process, defining KPIs, and interviewing candidates.
  • Assist with the oversight of external resources and vendors who are supporting WWP advocacy efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop communications to raise awareness of Government Affairs team activities with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Community Partnerships and Investments team and inform them on advocacy-related grants and projects.
  • Represent WWP at events, meetings, discussions, hearings, and conferences, including routine and ad hoc engagements with senior government officials.
Requirements:
  • Five years of experience in advocacy, policy, or legislative affairs or legislative research.
  • Three years of staff management or leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of military experience or working with veteran's or military service organizations.
  • Five years of experience working with a non-profit organization.
  • Five years of experience working in a Congressional office, an Executive branch office, or with a lobby firm.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in political science, business, management, communication, or other relevant field of study.
Certifications/Licenses:
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • General office environment; temperature controlled.
  • Up to 30% travel.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The estimated hiring range for this position is between $109,670 - $137,088 annual base salary, subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.
